The Consortium for Graduate Studies in Gender, Culture, Women, and Sexuality studies is taking the occasion to meditate on “feminist collective/s” as an organizing force, a practice, and concept that is just as urgent int he 21st century as it has been in the history.

Join Dr. Régine for the biennial ACWWS conference in honor of Eulalia Bernard Little. This year’s conference theme “Caribbean Feminisms: Genealogies and Geographies of Resistance” addresses this emphasis through its deliberate engagement with the fundamental concerns of womanism and the continuum of feminisms that have historically resisted diverse mechanisms of marginalization—particularly as it relates to how theories and practices resistance manifest in the unique histories and experiences of women from the region.

Enduring Blackness: A Decade of Black Portraiture[s]: PARIS 2012-2023
The anniversary event of Enduring Blackness will examine the historicity and rich panoply of black imagery and their articulations in important aesthetic conventions within European and global art forms. It will also trace the resounding resonance of the African diaspora in performative, literary and academic media – from film, music and opera, to sculpture, scholarship, painting and photography, to architecture, textile arts and fashion - like these modes of expression are committed to various audiences and commons. Additionally, it will examine the history and politics of black artistic and curatorial advocacy. Through broad conversations about the black body (and body politic) imagery in the West and around the world, the tenth anniversary of Black Portraiture[s] promises to continue its legacy of innovation in the fields of art, African studies , history and critical culture.

Haitian Women and the Uses of Literature- Book Talk at Dartmouth College
Join Dr. Règine at Dartmouth College for the two-night event “Haitian Women and the Uses of Literature” presented by the Dartmouth College Department of French & Italian. Tuesday, May 16th she will discuss her newest book Looking for Other Worlds: Black Feminism and Haitian Fiction alongside Dr. Nadève Ménard, author of Lyonel Trouillot, Les Enfants des héros: études critique. Wednesday, May 17th Dr. Régine will take part in a round table discussion with featured guest Évelyne Trouillot, author of Les Jumelles de la rue Nicolas and Dr. Nadève Ménard.

Join Régine Michelle Jean-Charles at Columbia University in a talk with the Black Studies colloquium on her recent book, “Looking for Other Worlds: Black Feminism and Haitian Fiction.” During the talk, she will explore how a Black feminist ethic of care influences the work of three contemporary Haitian authors, Yanick Lahens, Kettly Mars and Évelyne Trouillot.

Black: Here and Now- CHI Fellows Symposium at Amherst College
Join Dr. Régine Jean-Charles for a panel presentation at the “Black:Here and Now” symposium host by the Center for Humanistic Inquiry at Amherst College.
“Black: Here and Now” invites interdisciplinary engagement with various forms of Black life and cultural expression. Bringing together visual artists and scholars from Philosophy, Black Studies, and visual and literary studies, this conference examines the significance of Blackness in identity, art, music, and time-based media.
The symposium explores a range of questions: What are the relationships between the histories of imperialism, enslavement, and global representations of Blackness? What does putting Afro-Latinidad in conversation with the post-soul/post-black concept reveal about the meaning of Blackness in the contemporary moment? How do forms of black visual culture challenge what we perceive to be legitimate forms of knowledge?
